Consolidated marksheet, explained
What a consolidated marksheet actually is, why attestation offices and credential evaluators ask for it by name, and exactly how to request one — using University of Calicut’s live process.
A consolidated marksheet is one document your university issues after you finish a degree, combining every semester's subjects, marks, credits and your final CGPA onto a single sheet under one controller-of-examinations signature. Attestation offices, embassies and credential evaluators like WES often ask for it by name instead of a stack of semester marksheets, because one signed sheet is faster to verify than six or eight. This guide explains what it contains, why it matters specifically for attestation, and how to request one — using University of Calicut's own published process as a worked example.
What is a consolidated marksheet, exactly?
It is a single university-issued document, produced only after you have completed and passed every semester of your programme, listing subject-wise marks and credits for each semester alongside your semester-wise SGPA and your final cumulative CGPA. It carries the university's seal and the Controller of Examinations' signature. It is not the same as your provisional certificate (which confirms a degree was awarded, not your marks) or your degree certificate (the parchment). If you only have separate semester marksheets — one per term — a consolidated marksheet is the document that brings them together into one page.
Why attestation and embassy offices ask for it specifically
Every extra page in your document set is another thing that can be delayed, misplaced, or need its own individual signature check. Six semester marksheets create six separate opportunities for one page to be damaged, missing, or out of order; one consolidated marksheet has a single seal and a single signature to authenticate. Credential evaluators such as WES and IQAS also use it to map your CGPA against their own grading scale in one lookup rather than averaging across several documents. If your destination or employer specifically requests a consolidated marksheet and you file semester sheets instead, expect the request to bounce back — confirm which one they actually want before you start the attestation chain.
How to request one from your university
The general shape is consistent across Indian universities, though fees and turnaround vary by institution: confirm you have no pending results or backlog papers, apply through your university's exam cell or online portal, submit ID proof and your semester marksheets with the application, and pay the processing fee. Turnaround is measured in weeks rather than days at most universities, and can run longer for older admission batches whose records sit in physical archives rather than digital ones. Apply as early as your document timeline allows — this is not a same-week document.
What to have ready before you apply
Most university exam cells ask for the same core set regardless of institution: proof of identity, your original semester-wise marksheets (or their numbers, if the university can look them up digitally), your provisional certificate if it's already been issued, a passport-size photograph, and the paid fee receipt. If any of your certificates carry a name that doesn't match your current ID — a common gap for anyone who's married or legally changed their name since graduating — bring that supporting document too, or the university may hold the application rather than issue a marksheet with a name mismatch baked in.
Worked example: University of Calicut’s own process
Calicut publishes its Consolidated Grade Card process directly through its SUVEGA support portal: download the application form, pay the fee under purpose code CRCON01 (a separate code, EDS04, covers postal delivery if you need the document mailed to you), and post the completed form with your payment receipt to the Controller of Examinations, University of Calicut, Calicut University PO, Malappuram District, PIN 673635. Fees differ by admission year and course level (UG vs PG), so check the current amount on the portal at the time you apply rather than assuming last year's figure still holds. Other universities publish similar step-by-step pages through their own exam-cell or student-portal sites — check yours before assuming Calicut's fee codes apply.
Consolidated marksheet, transcript, provisional certificate — what’s actually different
These four get confused constantly, and mixing them up is the single most common reason a document set gets sent back. A semester marksheet covers one term only. A consolidated marksheet covers the whole degree's marks on one sheet. A provisional certificate confirms your degree was awarded, pending the actual degree certificate you'd otherwise collect at convocation — it does not list your marks at all. A transcript is a university-sealed academic record, often issued in a sealed envelope meant to go institution-to-institution or straight to an evaluator unopened. Know which one your destination is actually asking for before you request or attest the wrong document.
Where it fits in your attestation chain
A consolidated marksheet moves through the same chain as your degree certificate: state-level authentication, then MEA, then — for non-Hague destinations — the destination country's embassy. Qatar is the one destination on our catalog with a dedicated marksheet-attestation service separate from the degree certificate; most other destinations fold marksheet attestation into the degree-certificate process itself. Some universities now also issue a legally valid digital copy through DigiLocker or the National Academic Depository — worth checking with your issuing university if a physical original is proving hard to source, since a digital-only record can change what a state attestation office is willing to stamp.
What actually slows a consolidated marksheet request down
Two things account for most of the delay. First, any pending revaluation, supplementary exam, or backlog paper — universities generally won't issue a consolidated marksheet until every semester shows a final, closed result, so an unresolved recheck from years ago can hold up a document you need today. Second, older records: a 2010 graduate's marks may sit in a physical register rather than a searchable database, and pulling them takes longer than a recent graduate's digital record. If your graduation year is more than a few years back, build extra time into your plan rather than assuming it'll move at the same pace as a fresh batch.
